Description
Set of 3 Antique Carved Wooden Folk Art Shields. Dating to the 1940's-1950's. Group of 3 finely carved wooden shields. Made of a hard wood either walnut or mahogany. Each shield measures 11in x 8in x 1in. Each shield is carved with a wonderful border of maple leaves. The 1st shield features the Coat of Arms for the 437 Squadron Royal Canadian Air Force. This unit participated in Operation Market Garden & Operation Varsity in WWII. The 2nd shield of a Canadian coat of Arms reads "Magnum est Vectigal Parsimonia" which translates loosely in Latin to "Thrift is the best Revenue". The Coat of arms looks closely related to that of Belleville Ontario & Toronto Ontario. The 3rd Shield is carved with the coat of arms of the Communications & Electronics branch of the Canadian Armed Forces (Royal Canadian Corps of Signals). These are Amazing pieces of folk art as well as military history. Carver is unknown but highly skilled. Great condition. Estate found, sold as found.
