Original WWII Canadian North Nova Scotia Highlanders battledress jacket.
Looks like a combat jacket, worn in the field, not a coming home type. Definitely lots of wear. Shows the expected signs of age.

Small size. Tunic is marked “

." (date erased). However, a close study of other stamps from the same tailoring company shows a change in the year of 1943. Sometime in the summer of 1943, the stamp changed. As a result, our stamp is an early 1943 type. (see photo with comparison)
Wound strip sawn on the left sleeve. Two-year service stripes sawn on the right sleeve.
An original picture was included with the tunic when I purchased it from a military antic dealer in Toronto, Canada. After consulting with the kind and helpful members of the North Novies Association back in Amherst, it appears that this picture was taken in 1948 at a NNSH reunion outside of Turo. It features the tallest man along with the two smallest gentlemen. The tall guy was identified as piper Wally Roy from the Pictou Highlanders. The man on the left was identified as “Shorty” Rennie from the NNSH. The man on the right remains unidentified. There is no evidence that the original owner of the jacket is actually featured on that picture… It is more likely that the photo made a joyful memory from an early veteran reunion.
This is a rare opportunity to own a battle worn tunic from a prestigious Canadian unit that took part of D-Day and the battle of Normandy, and fought its way through Nijmegen, Holland and to the Rhine...
