    Description

    Impressive Large 1940’s Fabulous African Dan Mask. This very large mask is a wonderful Dan Mask from the Ivory Coast used at pre war ceremony and embodies the fierce and protective spirit of the warrior. Highly detailed with slit eyes, sculpted nose, full protruding lips. Horse or zebra hair used as mustache. There are cowrie shells, red fabric and full thick fabric rolled up to resemble horns on each side of the face which would denote power and strength. There are holes along back rim of face that would have held raffia and feathers to make a full headdress for warrior who would embody this fierce and strong protective spirit.
